Looking for a fast, clean, and high-converting WordPress popup plugin that won’t slow down your website? GazzIT Simple Popup Everywhere is the ultimate lightweight popup builder designed for site owners, developers, and marketers who need flexibility without bloated code.
Whether you are looking for a native Gutenberg popup editor or a free Elementor popup alternative that works without requiring Elementor Pro, this plugin gives you complete control to trigger popups on any page across your website.
Stop Struggling with Heavy Popup Plugins
Many popup plugins load heavy scripts on every page and slow down your Core Web Vitals. GazzIT Simple Popup Everywhere keeps things small and native: popups are built in the editor you already use, and assets load only where a popup is shown.
Key Features & Benefits
- Dual Editor Support: Create and manage your popups with either the WordPress Block Editor or Elementor.
- Block Editor Popups: Build popups natively in the Block Editor with the blocks you already use – including shortcodes and embeds such as contact forms.
- Elementor Popups without Elementor Pro: Design rich modal popups with Elementor widgets, and place them anywhere with the included ”Simple Popup” Elementor widget.
- Popup Anywhere with Shortcodes: Insert a popup shortcode into posts, pages, custom post types or widget areas, or show a popup automatically on every page of your site.
- Lightweight: The popup’s small stylesheet and script are only loaded on pages that actually display a popup. No external requests, no tracking.
- Visitor-Friendly Frequency Control: Show a popup on every page load, or just once per visitor for a set period (a day, week, month, year, or forever).
- Show Delay and Overlay Close: Delay the popup by a number of seconds and choose whether clicking the dark overlay closes it.
- Flexible Positioning: Fixed on screen (center, top, bottom, left, right or any of the 4 corners) or absolute (opens where the visitor is on the page and scrolls with it), with offsets from the edges. Adapts automatically on phones.
- Optional Overlay: Show the dark overlay behind the popup, or hide it so visitors can keep using the page.
- Fully Customizable Close Button: Text or icon, either side of the popup, font size, and text, background and border styles for Normal and Hover states.
- Popup Box Styling: Width, background, overlay color, margin, padding and border settings, plus 5 ready-made style presets – or add your own from your theme.
- Accessible: Popups are announced as dialogs, can be closed with the Escape key, and move keyboard focus in and back out.
- Translation Ready: Ships with translations for 16 languages.
Who is this Plugin for?
- Agencies & Developers: Offer your clients a seamless solution that works with both Gutenberg and Elementor workflows.
- Bloggers & Publishers: Capture email leads, display announcement banners, and highlight popular posts without sacrificing speed.
- E-commerce Stores: Display flash sales, offer promo codes, and reduce cart abandonment with clean modal popups.
How to Use GazzIT Simple Popup Everywhere
1. Create your popup
Go to the Simple Popup admin menu and add a new popup item.
2. Design it
Build the popup’s content using either the WordPress Block Editor or Elementor – whichever you’re already using for the rest of your site.
3. Configure its behavior
In the ”Simple popup settings” panel (Block Editor) or the popup’s own Style tab (Elementor), you can set:
* Show on – only where you place it, or automatically on every page
* Position – fixed on screen (9 positions) or absolute (center, left or right), with offsets
* Overlay – show or hide the dark overlay behind the popup
* Show popup – every page load, or just once per visitor for a chosen period (a day, week, month, year, or forever)
* Popup show delay and splash close behavior
* Close button as text or one of the built-in icons
* A ready-made popup style, or your own via your theme
4. Display it
* Shortcode: copy the generated shortcode (e.g., [gazzit-simplepopup id="123"]) into any page, post, or widget area.
* Elementor widget: if you’re building with Elementor, drag the Simple Popup widget onto any page instead and pick a popup from the dropdown – no shortcode needed, and you can override that popup’s visuals or timing just for this one placement without changing the popup itself.
Tip: while browsing your site as an admin, look for the Edit Simple Popups link in the admin toolbar on any page that’s currently showing one – it takes you straight to editing that popup.
Privacy
The plugin does not send any data to external services and does not set cookies. When a popup is set to ”Once per visitor”, the time it was shown is stored only in the visitor’s own browser (localStorage) so it isn’t shown again too soon.

-
Do I need Elementor?
-
No. Popups can be built with the standard WordPress Block Editor. Elementor (the free version is enough) is only needed if you want to design popups with Elementor.
-
How do I show a popup?
-
Set its ”Show on” setting to ”Every page” to show it on every page, or place it where you want it with the
[gazzit-simplepopup id="123"]shortcode or the ”Simple Popup” Elementor widget. -
Yes. Shortcodes and blocks from form plugins work inside Block Editor popups, and Elementor widgets work inside Elementor popups.
-
Can popups be opened by search engines or visitors directly?
-
No. Popups are excluded from search, archives and the XML sitemap, marked ”noindex”, and visitors who open a popup’s own URL directly are redirected to the home page. Only people who can edit the popup can open that URL.
-
How do I add my own popup style?
-
Place a CSS file in your theme’s
/gazzit-simplepopup/popup-styles/folder. The file name becomes the style’s slug, somy-style.cssmust use.gazzit_simplepopup.popup-style-my-styleas its selector prefix. An optional/* Style Name: My Style */header sets the label shown in the dropdown.

Muutosloki
1.6.0
Positioning
* New ”Position mode” setting: ”Fixed” keeps the popup on screen at one of 9 positions (center, top, bottom, left, right, top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right); ”Absolute” opens it where the visitor currently is on the page (center, left or right) and lets it scroll away with the page.
* Offsets from the screen edges, shown only for the edges the chosen position uses (default: 20px).
* On phones, side and corner popups use (almost) the full screen width and large offsets are reduced, so the popup always fits.
* The default position is now the true center of the screen (it used to sit 15% from the top).
Overlay
* New ”Overlay” setting: hide the dark overlay to let visitors keep using the page while the popup is open.
Scrolling
* Long popups now scroll inside the popup box with a thin, minimal scrollbar, instead of the browser’s default one.
Styles
* Dark Mode preset: headings and Elementor text are now readable (light) instead of keeping the theme’s dark colors.
Other
* The ”Popup position” setting that chooses where a popup appears is renamed to ”Show on” (”Only where placed” / ”Every page”). Existing settings are kept.
* Note for custom styles: popup content is now wrapped in a .gsp-body element, which holds the padding and the scrollbar.
1.5.0
Content rendering
* Block Editor popups now render like regular post content: shortcodes (e.g. contact forms), blocks and embeds work inside popups.
* Elementor popups no longer lose forms, inputs, iframes or SVGs.
Elementor
* Fixed popup settings showing one value in the Elementor panel while a different value was actually used (Show popup, Splash close, Close button, Delay). The values shown in the panel are now the real defaults.
* Fixed resetting a field back to its default in the Elementor panel (e.g. clearing a color or offset) leaving the old value in place.
Classic editor
* Fixed ”Popup splash close: No” being shown as ”Yes” again after saving.
* Fixed the close button border radius field showing an invalid value after saving.
Accessibility
* The popup is now announced as a dialog, the close button is a real button, Escape closes the popup, and keyboard focus moves into the popup and back when it closes.
Front end
* The popup’s stylesheet and script are only loaded on pages that actually display a popup.
* The popup now fits small screens (max width/height with scrolling) and appears above sticky headers.
* All popup CSS is now scoped to the popup, so it can no longer affect theme elements with generic class names.
* No inline <script> tags anymore; popup settings travel with the popup’s markup.
WordPress.org guidelines and housekeeping
* Popups are no longer publicly listed: no archive, excluded from search and the XML sitemap, ”noindex”, and direct visits by non-editors redirect to the home page.
* The admin menu now uses the standard post type menu (the old top-level ”Simple Popup” page had no content).
* Removed unused legacy code, including an unused public AJAX endpoint.
* Translations are now loaded on init, as required by recent WordPress versions.
* Requires WordPress 6.9 or later.
1.4.1
- Updated the screenshot descriptions in this readme for accuracy.
1.4.0
New: Full close button customization
* Added a complete style panel for the popup’s close button, with a live preview directly inside the Elementor editor while you edit the popup itself.
* Position: choose which side of the popup the close button sits on (left or right), with its own vertical and horizontal offset.
* Font size, with the icon scaling proportionally alongside it when ”Icon” is selected.
* Text color and background color, each with independent Normal and Hover states.
* Border type, width, color, and per-corner radius, also with independent Normal and Hover states.
* ”Popup settings” in the Elementor panel is now split into a ”General” section (behavior: position, show frequency, close button type/text/icon) and a ”Close button style” section under the Style tab, so appearance and behavior aren’t mixed together in one long list.
New: Border styling for the popup box
* Added Border Type, Border Width, Border Color, and Border Radius to the popup’s own visual settings (Style tab), matching the same field group as the close button above.
Bug fixes
* Fixed a popup embedded directly in a post’s own content (via the shortcode or the ”Simple Popup” widget) incorrectly showing up on blog listing/archive pages too, not just the post’s own page – many themes render full post content (not just an excerpt) in the post list, which was triggering the popup once per post shown there.
* Fixed Elementor page settings that could silently fail to save when changed a second time in the same editing session without reloading the page first (most commonly noticed on the ”Show popup” field) – caused by Elementor’s editor comparing against a default value that itself shifted between saves; defaults are now fixed instead of computed from existing settings.
* Fixed the close button’s text/background color losing their value entirely when set to a color with transparency (an alpha channel) or to one of the site’s Global Colors, instead of just a plain hex color.
* Fixed the classic close-button style (plain grey box) and replaced it with a cleaner default: transparent background, black text, 5px corner rounding.
Removed
* Removed the ”Simple Popup” widget’s own width/background/margin/padding override fields. They only duplicated settings that already exist on the popup itself and caused confusion about which one actually took effect; all visual styling for a popup now lives in one place – on the popup – regardless of where it’s displayed.
1.3.0
Translations
* The plugin is now fully translation-ready and ships with translations for 16 languages: English, German, Spanish, Polish, French, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Russian, Czech, Bulgarian, Romanian, Greek, Slovenian, and Croatian.
* Fixed translations not loading at all – the loader call was present in the code but had been left disabled.
* Regenerated the translation template (.pot) to include every translatable string added across recent versions; it previously only covered a small, outdated subset.
Bug fixes
* Fixed the admin stylesheet and script (admin.css, admin.js) not loading on the popup edit screen due to an incorrect asset URL – the ”Simple popup settings” metabox and its interactive fields (the text/icon toggle, the once-per-visitor duration field) could silently fail to work correctly as a result.
* Fixed the same class of incorrect-URL issue for the Elementor canvas preview stylesheet.
* Renamed the post list’s ”Add Post” button (and related admin labels) to properly say ”Add Simple Popup” – they previously fell back to WordPress’s generic defaults instead of the plugin’s own naming.
* Corrected a wrong shortcode example in this readme’s usage instructions ([simple_popup] was never a real shortcode – the correct one is [gazzit-simplepopup]).
* Fixed a handful of small text inconsistencies and a typo across the settings screens.
Usability
* Added short help tooltips next to every field in the ”Simple popup settings” metabox.
* Added matching field-level descriptions to every control in the Elementor document panel and the ”Simple Popup” widget’s panel.
1.2.0
- Added a ”Show popup” setting: display it every page load (previous, still default, behavior) or only once per visitor.
- When set to ”Once per visitor”, a new ”Remember for” setting controls how long that’s remembered in the visitor’s browser: a day, a week, a month (default), a year, or forever.
- Available and synced in both the classic metabox and the Elementor document panel, same as the other popup settings.
- ”Once per visitor” is tracked via the visitor’s own browser storage – no data is sent to or stored on the server, and clearing browser data or using a different browser/device resets it.
1.1.0
Elementor integration
* Popup document settings (Position, Splash close, Delay, Class) are now available directly in Elementor’s document panel, in sync with the classic metabox – whichever editor you last saved with wins, and the other editor’s fields update to match.
* The classic ”Simple popup settings” metabox is now automatically hidden once a popup has been built with Elementor, to avoid duplicate/confusing controls.
* New ”Simple Popup” Elementor widget: insert any existing popup on any page or post by dragging it onto the canvas and picking a popup from a dropdown. Not available while editing a popup itself, to avoid nesting a popup inside itself.
* The widget supports optional per-placement overrides (splash close, delay, class, width, background, background curtain, margin, padding) – leaving a field blank uses the popup’s own saved setting; filling it in overrides it for that placement only, without touching the popup’s own settings.
* The popup now renders live inside the Elementor editor: it appears when you select the ”Simple Popup” widget (in the canvas or the Structure panel), and hides again when you switch to editing a different widget, instead of either staying invisible the whole time or auto-popping up on every editor load.
* Fixed a WP_Styles _doing_it_wrong notice (”dependencies that are not registered: elementor-frontend”) that could appear – and silently break the widget’s live preview – when editing an Elementor-built popup through the widget.
* Fixed the popup’s own CSS occasionally appearing as raw, unstyled text inside the popup when switching which popup is selected in the widget.
Popup styling
* Added 5 ready-made popup style presets (Minimal, Rounded Card, Dark Mode, Gradient Accent, Bold Border), selectable from a new ”Popup style” dropdown – previously this field existed but wasn’t connected to anything.
* Theme developers can add their own custom styles by placing a CSS file in their active theme’s /gazzit-simplepopup/popup-styles/ folder; a theme file with the same name as a bundled preset overrides it. An optional /* Style Name: ... */ header at the top of the file controls its label in the dropdown.
* The close button can now be plain text (customizable) or one of 4 built-in icons, chosen per popup. Developers can add their own icons via the gazzit_simplepopup_close_icons filter.
* Popup margin and padding, previously only visible while editing the popup’s layout in Elementor, are now actually applied to the popup as it appears on the site.
Admin experience
* Redesigned the ”Simple popup settings” metabox with clearer field grouping, icons and descriptions, matching native WordPress admin styling.
* Added an ”Edit Simple Popups” link in the admin toolbar on any front-end page that’s actually displaying one or more popups (via shortcode or site-wide display), linking straight to the correct editor (Elementor or classic) for each one.
Bug fixes
* Fixed a JavaScript bug where explicitly turning ”Popup splash close” off could still close the popup on splash click, because the string ”0” is truthy in JavaScript.
* Fixed a template bug where a message box could be left with an unclosed <div>.
* Fixed a template bug that double-printed the ”Simple popup” admin page heading.
* Removed a redundant ID-sanitizing call in the popup shortcode handler.
* General code cleanup: removed stray closing PHP tags, redundant database lookups, and tightened output escaping in several templates.
* Reconciled the plugin’s version number, which had drifted out of sync between the plugin header (1.0.1) and this readme’s Stable tag (1.0.3).
1.0.2
- Fix template to canvas in Elementor at creating popup.
1.0.1
- Added plugin icon and official screenshots to repository assets.
- Improved plugin activation hook and initialization checks.
- Enhanced Elementor compatibility and fixed editor preview rendering.
1.0.0
- Initial release of the GazzIT Simple Popup Everywhere plugin.
